After school nanny

I have been working with children for 5 years. During this time I have worked in a baby room with babies aged 4 months to 18 months, it entailed having my own key children, planning activites to help them achieve and excell their development milestones. I have also worked in a toddler room (18months to 2.5 years) & prechool (2.5 years to school leavers) which entails the same responsibilities as above. This work was done in a well established large college nursery, which unfortunately closed down due to the college sight moving.
I then moved on to working in a small playgroup which ran in a church hall, my responsibilities involved setting up toys & activites in line with all the EYFS requirements, preparing snack, assisting lunch times and obviously making sure the children are having fun!
I left the playgroup to go on maternity leave and having my own little bundle, during my time off I achieved my qualification in childcare and began to co-run a church run baby, toddler and parent group which has been amazing! However now my bundle is all grown up I am excited to get back into some work.
I have learnt a lot through working in childcare settings such as following the government frameworks, risk assessments etc which is all extremely helpful but I find communication & connection is key. If a parent cant communicate with the person they have left responsibile for their child its not going to work, I like to make sure parents feel they can talk to me, I will respect & listen to what they have to say as no-one knows their child better dispite qualifications & experience. Connection with the parents & child is vital, everyone has to feel comfortable especially the child, they are being left with people they dont know after all so feeling comfortable and like they can express their emotions is so important, how else will we enjoying playing!
