I've always enjoyed taking care of children. I'm quite an intuitive person, and as children are individuals you have to treat them as such - I believe I read and communicate with them well. I love to play and keep children entertained, but also take great satisfaction from teaching them skills, whether it's how to tie shoe laces or make a jam sandwich! Recently I helped my flat mate (who is a nanny to 3 under 10's) take the children to Chessington, i took the two youngest off so that the older could go on bigger rides, and we had so much fun. Although it was a bit tiring, i loved getting them to face their fears of what rides to go on and seeing their faces light up when they did this and had a lovely time! Children are precious, and they grow up so quickly, you have to make the most of them and it's those around them that shape them into the person they are as an adult.
When i was 10 my family divorced and I began to help my mother bring my little brother up (he was 2 at the time). I would bath, feed, dress and change him, until he was ready to do this himself. I then took light babysitting work while at school (mainly for boys) and found I related to them very well, and was always asked back. At university I studied psychology which gave me a greater knowledge of childhood and how experience manifests in behaviour. This is very interesting to me and has helped to calm children down when they've thrown tantrums etc. I have always proven to be reliable, punctual, honest and capable of taking responsibility. You are being invited into peoples home to look after their most treasured possession, I respect this and would never abuse this trust.
