Babysitting

Since being young I have always wanted to pursue a career in working with children and their families. I want to be the person who makes a difference in someone's life.

The beginning of my childcare experience began in my school years where I volunteered in various nurseries, schools & hospitals. On an evening, I attended night classes from which I gained a CACHE Level 1 Award in Getting Started in a Pre-School Setting. After leaving school with 13 GCSE's I completed a BTEC National Diploma in Early Years at sixth form. I passed with the mark of 3 distinctions which qualified me as Level 3 nursery nurse in the age range of 0-5. I have completed over 800 hours of placement where I carried out over 25 full observations and curriculum, age appropriate activities. My knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum and EYFS are of a high ability ensuring children's development is maintained and progressed. During sixth form I also volunteered in two special educational needs schools. For 4 years now I have been volunteering in a Foster Carer's house in London, to experience new ways of working with children instead of just in a structured environment.

From sixth form I went to the University of Sunderland to study a BA (Hons) in Childhood Studies. In my 2nd year I transferred to the University of Greenwich as a start of a new adventure. I begin my final year of studies in September 2011 and after graduating in July 2012 I want to hopefully become a successful Family Support Worker.

I began working in a private day nursery as a qualified nursery nurse in February 2008 and still continue to work in them today. Working allows me to carry on my practise with children along with gaining theory at University. It also helps me to work effectively with professionals and parents and enhances my knowledge of working with children. I have completed several courses including play group; first aid; food hygiene and behaviour management.
